The Business Problem

Selling modular, heavy-duty commercial shelving and storage solutions involves complex customer requirements: specific dimensions, load tolerances, bay configurations, tier heights, and specialized accessories.

Previously, customers had to submit bespoke quote request forms. This created multiple commercial friction points:

VISUALIZE, VALIDATE, TRANSACT

Transforming complex custom manufacturing rules into an intuitive, real-time 3D web experience connected directly to automated checkout.

The Architectural Solution

I architected a decoupled, headless solution combining a lightweight WebGL/Three.js rendering engine with a strict mathematical validation layer on the front end, integrated into the e-commerce checkout and ERP manufacturing queue.

1. Parametric 3D Assembly Engine

Rather than loading heavy pre-rendered 3D models, components were rendered procedurally based on user dimensions (height, width, depth, beam capacity). Customers could add bays, drag shelf levels, change finishes, and inspect their build in true scale in real time.

2. Real-Time Engineering Constraint Validation

The configurator enforces physical manufacturing rules directly in the browser. If a customer attempts to add an unsupported shelf span without center bracing, the interface visually guides them to compatible options, making invalid configurations impossible to purchase.

3. Dynamic Bill of Materials (BOM) Generation

Upon clicking checkout, the configurator decomposes the 3D model into an exact itemized Bill of Materials with live stock validation and component-level pricing. When the customer completes payment, the order flows straight into the factory production schedule without human intervention.
